Immediate Partial Denture vs Final Partial Denture

Immediate Partial Dentures are Temporary Dentures which are made to replace some missing teeth on an arch. They are made before extractions and are placed the day a tooth is extracted. Typically, acrylic partials are used for this purpose because they are easier to reline and they are more cost efficient than other types of partials.

Final Partial Dentures replace some teeth in an arch and are made to fit a mouth that has already healed after extractions. Final partials can be made out of a wide variety of materials and in various styles depending on your needs.

Partial Denture Types

There are many different materials that a partial denture can be made from. Here at Tyler denture pros we offer a wide variety. Our Partial Dentures come in options of Acrylic, Resin, Acetal, Chromium Cobalt, Titanium, and Flexible. All options except acrylic are 3D printed.

Plastic Partials

Acrylic Partial Denture

Acrylic partial Dentures are made of high Impact acrylic and have small metal wires that clasp teeth. Acrylic Partials are generally used as temporary healing partials due to the ease of relining them and their lower cost.

Flexible Partial Denture

Flexible partial dentures are made of a flexible plastic which bends to fit over teeth and offers clasps with no metal at all. This type of partial is generally used a final partial denture for after healing has taken place. This style of partial is comfortable and highly esthetic.

Metal Partials

Cast Metal Partial Denture

Cast metal partials are sturdy and adjustable. This type of partial denture usually lasts the longest. They have metal frameworks and metal clasps with plastic teeth and gums. They can be made with Chromium Cobalt or Titanium.

Hybrid Partial Denture

Hybrid Partials are cast metal partials that have flexible plastic clasps instead of metal ones. The plastic clasps makes them more esthetic, but takes away from how adjustable they are.

Other Types of Partial Dentures

Unilateral Partial

A unilateral partial denture is a partial that clasps onto two teeth does not go across the whole mouth. It is usually used to replace one or two teeth in a row.

Flipper

A flipper is a special type of temporary acrylic partial that replaces 1-3 front teeth. It is used for esthetic purposes only.

Implant Partial

Implant retained partials are partial dentures that are held in by implants instead of clasps. Number and placement of implants varies.
